`I take Jason and Carson to a class called Take Two, where you can take a toddler and an infant for some developmental play and discussion with a child specialist. To me this is great because it gets Jason some running time with other toddlers and I can hang back and talk to other parents while holding Carson.
Carson had a different idea.
Instead of hanging back with his dad and idly watching the 2 year olds play, Carson decided to put himself in the mix. Today there was a water table, and Carson went wild. He speed-inched his way across the room, squealing with delight the whole way. I ended up having to put a smock on him and let him shoulder up with the big boys while they washed dishes. Instead of me sitting back and chitchatting I spent the better part of the class taking soapy dishes, sponges, and plastic animals out of Carson's mouth.
Carson has a malformation of the head marked by an
oblique slant to the main axis of the skull.* It is really noticeable if you look at the back of his head, and so our pediatrician sent us to a specialist who recommended the helmet. He has to wear it for 23 hours a day for three months. At the end of the three months the specialist believes the malformation will no longer be noticeable to the eye.
Carson did really well today. He wore it for approximately six hours, but he didn't have to go to bed with it. Tomorrow he will wear it all day except for naps and bed. After that he will wear it all the time, with one hour of parole daily.
I didn't expect the helmet would look so stormtrooper-ish. We ordered white so that we could decorate it ourselves. It may take us a few days before we're ready to paint it. Before we got it I had considered gluing two horns to the sides and going with the Viking look, but now that I've seen it I'm leaning more towards a nose piece and a feathered crest and shooting for the "THIS IS SPARTA!" baby helmet.
