If you have to wear a helmet you might as well be happy about it
Carson has a malformation of the head marked by an
oblique slant to the main axis of the skull.* It is really noticeable if you look at the back of his head, and so our pediatrician sent us to a specialist who recommended the helmet. He has to wear it for 23 hours a day for three months. At the end of the three months the specialist believes the malformation will no longer be noticeable to the eye.
Carson did really well today. He wore it for approximately six hours, but he didn't have to go to bed with it. Tomorrow he will wear it all day except for naps and bed. After that he will wear it all the time, with one hour of parole daily.
I didn't expect the helmet would look so stormtrooper-ish. We ordered white so that we could decorate it ourselves. It may take us a few days before we're ready to paint it. Before we got it I had considered gluing two horns to the sides and going with the Viking look, but now that I've seen it I'm leaning more towards a nose piece and a feathered crest and shooting for the "THIS IS SPARTA!" baby helmet.

Poor Carson! The good thing is that he should quickly get used to it and that the three month sentence will be over before he knows it.
What's sad is that I knew exactly what you were talking about in the first sentence of this post. I just spent the last five months of bone school learning to talk like that.
He's as cute as ever and I'm glad (at least in this photo) he doesn't seemed phased by it. Like a lot of stuff w/our kids, sometimes I think it's harder on the parents than on the kids!
Glad it went well on the first day!
What does Jason think of it? Does he want one too?

He's so damn cute. Helmet or no, he's adorable.
How about a Patriot's theme? Maybe you could install a digital camera :)
23 hours a day for 5 months. But let me tell you, she has the prettiest skull in town now!
When LuLu was done with treatment, we had our family, friends, her doctor, and her PT sign the helmet & it sits on our mantle to this day. Funny & kinda scary too!
Good luck!
Three months seems like a very long time right now, but I'm sure we'll get used to it. Signing the helmet and putting it on the mantle is a great idea. My current thought is to run over it with the Subaru at the end of the three months, but I will remain open to other options.
Spiderbyte...think we could get a photo/post of the helmet on your mantle for inspiration for Carson!?!?! ;-)

How about a Santa hat for Christmas? You could attach velcro and have different decorations for every occasion.
